Good rhythm of the Peruvian grape export season

Printable version
The export of Peruvian grapes continues to increase. During the first three months of the 2023-2024 campaign (October-December), the value reached $1,058 million, growing +40% compared to the same period of the previous year ($753,689,000), according to data from the Agro-Export Management. of the Association of Exporters (ADEX).

This increase is partly attributed to the earlier season in northern and southern Peru due to climate change, such as Cyclone Yaku and El Niño. However, there is a possibility that this could have a negative impact in January or February. In addition, the growing demand from some Asian countries on the occasion of the Chinese New Year has contributed to this growth, since a large amount of grapes are consumed during this festival.

Today, Peru exports more than 50 grape varieties, with White Seedless being the most prominent, followed by Red Seedless, Red Globe and Black Seedless. Although consumers prefer seedless varieties, in Asia Red Globe is popular for its flavor and texture.

According to data from the ADEX Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System, during the first 3 months of the 2023-2024 campaign (October-December), the main destination of exports was the United States, concentrating 47% of the total, followed by the Netherlands, Mexico, Hong Kong, China, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Taiwan and South Korea.

Among the markets that grew the most, Hong Kong (130%), Dominican Republic (96%), El Salvador (87%), Mexico (62%) and Guatemala (60%) stand out. In addition, for the first time it entered the Japanese market, generating close to US$8 million in sales.
