Vietnamese durian gains market share in China

Printable version
China has long been the world's leading importer of durian, and for years had Thailand as its sole supplier. But in 2022, when a protocol was signed, Vietnam began exporting durian to China.

According to the local media, Vietnamese exports of durian to China have exploded. While sales totalled just USD 420 million in 2022, by 2023 they will have risen to USD 2.3 billion.

The arrival of Vietnamese durian on the Chinese market has changed the market share situation. Thailand, which had 100% market share in 2021, will have increased to 95% in 2022, and then to just 70% in November 2023, while Vietnam will have 30%.

Demand for durian on the Chinese market is rising steadily, and analysts predict that it will be worth USD 20 billion by 2025.
