9.7% decline in value for Kenya's 2022 exports

Kenya's horticultural exports include cut flowers, fruits and vegetables. For all of these exports, the value generated in 2022 varied by -9.7% compared to 2021, but for the fruit category the variation is +4.19%.
 
According to provisional data from the Central Bank of Kenya, in 2022 the value of sales of horticultural products abroad reached 120.26 billion KES (926.5 million USD), or -9.7% compared to 133, 23 billion KES (1.026 billion USD) in 2021.
 
.Cut flowers: export value reached KES 54.25 billion (USD 417.9 million), or -10.21% compared to 2021
 
.Fruits: the value of exports reached KES 38.67 billion (USD 297.9 million), or +4.19% compared to 2021
 
.Vegetables: the value of exports reached KES 27.34 billion (USD 210.6 million), almost -25% compared to 2021.
 
This decline in income is due to high inflation in Europe (EU, United Kingdom) where consumer purchasing power is lower. European markets are the main destinations for Kenyan cut flowers, fruits and vegetables.
