In the UK around 25% of the annual consumption of Brussels sprouts occurs in the 2 weeks before Christmas. The British are the biggest consumers of Brussels sprouts in Europe.
 
This year's exceptionally dry weather this year has not been beneficial for Brussels sprouts crops which are showing significantly smaller sizes than usual.
 
While the Brussels sprouts are smaller this year, UK growers point out that the quality is the same as in previous years.
 
The British are the biggest consumers of Brussels sprouts in Europe and the vegetable continues to grow in popularity. The proliferation of cooking shows and the introduction of new, sweeter varieties has had a positive effect on consumption by young people: the number of 18 to 24 year olds who say they like Brussels sprouts has increased from 26% in 2021 to 44% in 2022, or +69%, according to a recent survey carried out by Tesco.
