In early May, Oxfam and VCCI (Vietnam Chamber of Trade and Industry) organized a seminar in Hanoi to launch a new project that will run from 2022 to 2023. In order to strengthen the export capacities of small and medium-sized enterprises in fruit, vegetable and spice sector to European markets. The project will provide intensive technical assistance as well as up-to-date information on quality standards and regulations, will help these structures to reach EU market standards and thus increase their exports.

 

In 2021, Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports to Europe reached USD 303 million, or +17.4% compared to 2020, and accounted for an 8.5% share in the country's total export value. The market share of exports to Asian countries fell to 80% (82.2% in 2020).

 

Demand from European consumers remains solid, particularly for tropical fruits and vegetables which have recorded a growth rate of 20 to 25%, underlined Mr. Hoang Quang Phong, Vice President of VCCI.

 

In 2022, according to the Import-Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports to the EU are expected to increase by 10-15%. The volume of fruit and vegetables imported into the EU market reaches an estimated value of around USD 100 billion per year.
