The Chinese authorities closed in early August the port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, located 200 km south of Shanghai,
after the discovery of a Covid-19 case among employees. The restrictions are now lifted and the port of Ningbo-Zhoushan should be fully operational in the coming days.

The port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, the 3rd largest port in the world in terms of shipping and was closed in early August after the discovery of a positive case for the Delta variant of Covid-19 among employees. Many ships have been diverted to other ports. This has worsened the situation in other Chinese ports where ships stand in long lines to unload.

In addition, the weather conditions also caused problems during the summer when several ports had to be temporarily closed due to typhoon warnings.

Sanitary restrictions were lifted on August 25 in the port of Ningbo-Zhoushan and activity has gradually resumed. According to public television CCTV which quoted a document from local authorities, the terminal should be fully operational by September 1.

Ningbo-Zhousha Port, located in Zhejiang Province, about 200 km south of Shanghai, is one of the main Chinese ports for freight and the 3rd in the world in terms of shipping. The port handled around 1.2 billion tonnes of cargo last year
