Peru 25/06/2021
As informed by the Association of Hass Avocado Producers of Peru (ProHass), this year, the country could export 473.000 tons of Hass avocado, which means a rise of 29.2% compared to 366.000 tons exported in the previous campaign.
This figure is slightly higher than the 460.000 tons forecasted by the association in May, and even higher than the USDA estimation of 450.000 tons published in March.
According to Juan Carlos Paredes Rosales, the president of ProHass, this significant growth was impulsed by the entry into production of the new plantations in Olmos and in the mountains, and also by higher productive yields of the young plants.
He also mentioned that Europe will remain the main destination with projected export volume around 350.000 tons.
ProHass also expects to export 100.000 tons to the US market, which is 20% more than in the previous season due to the drop in production in California. Peru currently supplies 30 percent of the avocados that reach the U.S.
