Perishable Movements Limited (PML), one of the global perishable cargo specialists, continues to provide logistics support to Kenyan exporters and UK importers and invests in chartering its own airfreight flights. In this way, the company will maintain its key role in securing the supply of fresh produce during the pandemic and after Brexit.

PML is working with Kenya Airways and has chartered a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft that will fly from Nairobi to Heathrow twice a week and carry basic perishable goods such as fruits (avocado, mango and passion fruit), vegetables and other on behalf of PML's customers looking to export out of Kenya. Many of these exported goods have an average shelf life of 21 days or less, so ensuring smooth and without delay trading between countries is key for the company.

Nick Finbow, Sales Director at PML, commented on the recent investment in chartering airfreight flights to company: "The response to this service has been very positive and we anticipate that the flights will be operating at full capacity, both up to Christmas and beyond, when the Brexit restrictions come into force, which are likely to severely impact on the supply chain business."

The first weekly flight started on November 18. Both weekly flights will be able to carry 36 tons of cargo per flight until the end of December. From January, after planned modifications to the aircraft, the carrying capacity is planned to increase to 42 tons. With flights departing at 04:00 local time (Wednesdays and Sundays), PML will be able to successfully deliver fresh produce to the UK on the same day it departs Kenya, which represents a fast transfer and thus maintains the quality and shelf life of any fresh produce.

Perishable Movements Limited is a family-owned business based in Heathrow, UK. With 17 years of experience, the company effectively manages the supply chain of temperature sensitive goods. Company's logistics experts working across both import and export, transporting the cargo door-to-door with maximum efficiency.
