Taiwan diversifies export markets to reduce dependence on Chinese market

In the first quarter of this year, Taiwanese fruit exports to China fell 29.8%. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
 
 
According to the Agriculture Council, the country recorded an 8.6% drop in fruit exports in the 1st quarter of 2020, with sales reaching $1.2 billion. Exports to China fell 29.8%, but other markets grew.
 
 
 
Taiwan has sought to expand fruit exports to more countries to try to reduce its dependence on the Chinese market. Exports to the Netherlands increased by 17%, exports to the United States increased by 16% and exports to the Philippines increased by 13.6%.
 
 
 
Several Taiwanese products have gained popularity on the international market, such as bananas and jujubes which recorded increases of 27% and 16%. Pineapples, lichees and mangoes have gained new markets.
